Turning our past pain into passion that drives a new future
Feeling the season of winter in my body, I can’t help but start to crawl deeper into my past, taking me back to the roots from which I came. As each year passes, I embrace a little more of my history, bringing forth deeper love and compassion.
I used to be ashamed of where I came from, always wanting different parents, or a different up bringing. Wishing “I had it easier”. When I started my spiritual quest, I only scraped the surface of what it meant to “honor my past.” I knew deep within me I chose it, but a huge underlying part of me was filled with shame. I couldn’t understand how I could choose something so painful.
They say “your pain is your purpose”, and I’m a believer that we have the ability to turn our pain into something great. I also recognize that it takes extreme perseverance that not everybody is committed to. I want you to know, if you’re reading this now and have felt the extreme disconnection from love in your past, that you are not alone. In fact, you are never alone, because you are a child of god. We came to this earth, to find deep meaningful connection and I want you to know that you are SO supported to come to terms with your past and let that guide you to find the keys that will unlock a deeper purpose within you.
This world has tremendous amounts of darkness in it, and we are being called to take responsibility for ourselves in a way that creates tremendous amounts of change.
To be dead honest, I think it’s a miracle I turned out the way that I am, given my circumstances. Coming from an alcoholic, abusive, Jehovah’s witness family, the word depressing doesn’t start to paint it justice.
However, no matter where we came from, we have a choice to turn our past pain into passion.
I remember going to a yoga class years ago at Bhakti Fest, CA and a yoga teacher said something I will never forget. He asked us “WHAT CREATES LIFE?”. Everyone paused for a moment. And then he said “SHIT CREATES LIFE, FERTILIZER MAKES THE GREATEST SOIL!”. From that moment on, I’ve strongly believed we are given a choice. A choice to use the “shit” as fertilizer and grow the most beautiful garden you could ever imagine, or stay and rot in the “shit”. It’s your choice, whether you want to admit it. We can heal and rewrite our future, no matter where we came from.
I’m living proof that you can change. That it’s not only possible to change and heal your past, but to create a ripple effect of transformation that impacts the entire world. And it all starts with us. As Mahatma Ghandi says it perfectly, “ Be the change you wish to see in the world”.
Right here, right now, It starts with YOU. Your smile, your business, your art, your music, your touch, your words. Your every moment can create more beauty, or more pain. Which are you choosing?
My pain birthed such great beauty that continues to grow. There is so much I would have never done, including this very blog, if I would have not gone through what I went through and made a conscious choice to heal. I now have the ability to empathetically connect on a deep level, and have a burning desire to help others transform this earth through a reconnection to love. With this burning desire I’m pursuing my passion by creating a program that fosters self awareness for children and teens called Mindfully Evolve. Let us create beauty out of our past pain and lets do it together!

Let the pain of your past become your passion that drives this world into the transformation it’s needing. Share and honor your past as that driving force. Let it be the source of hope for another that’s stuck just waiting for a helping hand.
