3 steps to Strengthening Your Intuition
Have you ever had a strange feeling about something and followed it? Or have you ignored it, and wished you hadn’t? Do you ever pause, and connect in with your “gut feeling” before making decisions? Intuitive decisions are not something that we have thought out carefully with reason, but rather choices that have arisen quickly out of instinct.
Your intuition is like your own “Internal Guidance System” and is another sense that we have within us and it that takes practice to build a relationship with.
It’s amazing how many times I have overlooked my intuition wishing I would have listened. Whether it was my ex partner that I suspected not being in integrity, or the answer to a test in which I second guessed myself. There was some sort of instinctual knowing, or feeling that my physical body was trying to communicate.
Think of your intuition just like a muscle. If you don’t use a muscle over time it’s going to get weak and not function properly. The more you use a muscle, the stronger and more optimal it will be.
Here are 3 simple steps to identify with and strengthen your intuition:
- Go into a calm meditative state and close your eyes. Take at least 5 cleansing breathes in through your nose and out through your mouth. Let the last exhale be an exaggerated sigh to release everything, up until this moment.
- Place one hand on your belly, and one hand on your heart and ask yourself a series of True/False statements that you know the answer to. You will feel a different sensation in your body for a True or False statement. As an example, I could say to myself “My name is Breeanne”, “I am a woman” (both are true), then I could say “I live in Hawaii” (which is false). The more you practice this, the more easily you will be able to identify the signals your body gives you for True and False statements. Often times a YES will feel light and open and a NO will feel like a contraction and tightness. Ultimately each body and each emotion are different and you will learn to know the truth by the way it feels.
- Once you have identified how your body provides feedback, then begin to ask yourself questions that you want to know answers to such as “Should I take this job” or “Is this person being truthful with me”.
IF your body is screaming a HEAVEN FUKEN YES or a HELL NO then you know what to do. Be patient. Sometimes it’s a light and small voice inside that’s been buried. Practice strengthening the muscle of intuition and you will reap the rewards.
I’ve realized intuition comes down to a matter of TRUST. Trusting your intuition is wrapped with your ability to trust and believe in yourself. Your ability to have faith that what you feel is a trusted source of guidance. As you begin to strengthen your relationship to your internal guidance system, you can gradually start to trust it. For me, Trust isn’t something given away it is something earned and built upon so have the patience to build a solid level of trust with this new part of yourself. Just like any new practice in your life, it takes discipline and dedication.
I promise you, that your relationship to your intuition is one of the best relationships to cultivate. It is your super power!
